THE FATEFUL DAY

THE DAY OF THE BLOODY CRACKDOWN

1. The Tank Man
The Tiananmen Square bloody protests took place on the 4th of June 1989 but the protests in general had started from the 15th of April.  The students and in genreral the people that the political and economic changes did them wrong decided to start protesting and calling for democracy, equality, and free speech. In addition to that people wanted the financial mismanagement, nepotism, and the lack of career placement opportunities to stop. People wanted what they deserved and what from the law
2. The Tanks
The Chinese government described the protests an act of terrorism and they sent the People's Liberation Army to occupy some parts of central Beijing. At 1 a.m. on June 4, Chinese police officers and soldiers started firing live rounds into the crowd. Even though a lot of people tried to escape because they hesitated to stay and fight while at the same time others stayed and decided to fight back.
The courage of those people led a man to go and stand up in front of a convoy of tanks leaving Tiananmen Square, Beijing. The man tried to stop the tanks by standing in front of them and by also climbing to one of them. Fortunately, the tanks stopped and there is a video footage that shows the man climbing onto a tank and starting a conversation with the tank's commander. After the lengthy conversation the man jumps back down but after a while two people came and pulled him to the side. Moreover the identity of the man i still not known and no one ever learned what happened to him after the protests. (Jose Nino,2020)
The consequences of what took place on Tiananmen Square that day are still evident even up to this day, that almost mark the 33rd Anniversary.
